(Come to think of it, the entire combat system reminds me of Doom - the enemy tactics of simply rushing you en-masse, the ability to exploit the enemy's AI, the ability to access up to 8 weapons at the press of a single key and so on. It's a system of learning through death that reminds me of games like Dark Souls, the previously-mentioned Risk of Rain and even old shooters like Doom. As a player, you had to know what was coming up, based on your current biome, the next biome, the likelihood of a type of enemy spawning, the position of the day/night cycle etc. This also added an aspect of planning to the game, especially in Endurance mode. (That last point is one of the reasons I love the game Risk of Rain - it's difficult and it can be mastered, but it never gets so easy that you're not having to think about it.) Inventory management was one of the most important aspects of the game, as no matter how skilled you were, anything could kill you if you weren't careful or paying attention. Bloodstone? It's high-quality, but I can find more of it easily, right? I have a lot of iron, but it's a fairly common ore, so can that be easily replaced? Is that a skeleton I can hear? If I don't hurry up, I'm going to lose everything anyway. It forced quick decision-making - what do I really need to keep safe? Space goo - yes. This is actually one of the things I enjoyed most about the game when I played on X360. What about a laser sword or laser drill? What if you want to carry both a shotgun and a sniper rifle? What if you're using two types of ammo? What about grenades or other explosives? Where do you put a GPS or the hand held teleport device? Diamond has to take a spot, then you might want gold+iron, or goo+space rock, or blood stone.

However, I played the old X360 version of CMZ as well as the PC version (and back then, Minecraft was only available to PC players, so CMZ was the go-to blocksim and there were always tons of online games open. As far as most players are concerned (especially new players or people who aren't "hardcore gamers"), I think the added convenience does give players far more options, and for the most part that's a Very Good Thing. I do agree with adding more slots to speed up the pace of the game and add diversity to the options you're given. (warning: this post is freaking long and nobody cares about my rants so there's a tl dr at the bottom of the post k)

We also believe it makes the game more fun. And it gives us more design space for future updates. The additional 8 slots frees up the player to try out other items and guns. Ultimately we feel that the available game play options were too narrow when limited to 8 item tray slots. Beyond that, there are plans for new things to occupy those extra tray slots, but nothing we can confirm yet. Laser Drills use different ammo than laser weapons, and you might want to carry a pickaxe in addition to the drill. Loot blocks give you a variety of unexpected weapons and items. Teleport blocks encourage collecting more iron and copper. We want players to be able to enjoy these additions without sacrificing the existing necessities. UpdatesWe have been gradually increasing the number of things you want to carry or protect.
